Our client is a well established main contractor that has been trading for over 20 years, and well recognised as a leader in their field of work. Their range of projects include – commercial, residential, education and leisure and range in value from £10m - £30m.

The successful Estimating Manager will head up the Estimating and Tendering side of a successful contractor working on Design and Build projects.

The Role

As the Senior Estimating Manager, you will be reporting to a hands-on Director. Managing the Estimating and Pre-Construction stages through to handover, whist working closely with the commercial and construction teams. You will tie together all the elements of the tender process carrying out detailed scrutiny of the commercial input to present a potentially winning bid.

Your Scope will include

  • Supervising and co-ordinating the work of the estimating team
  • Ensuring that all estimating processes and procedures are followed
  • Site visits to establish and verify information submitted as part of the tender process
  • Develop cost estimates and co-ordinate proposals for projects
  • Provide sector specific forecasts and report projects status
  • Manage multiple bids
  • Revise estimates and implement required changes
  • Monitor and ensure bid formats meet clients' requirements and specifications
  • Co-ordinate with subcontractors to receive input on pricing on plant, labour, materials, and other costs
  • Participate in pre and post bid meetings
  • Liaise with the operational side once the bid becomes a secured project
  • Lead the tender team providing guidance and appraisals on the performance of Estimators and Senior Estimators.
  • Review all the tender documents received having a clear understanding of what is required for the tender and have the ability liaise with senior management to develop the bid strategy
  • Identify key project elements including potential risks
  • Prepare and send out sub-contractor & supplier enquiries. Track progress and analyse on return, including terms and conditions to ensure best prices are received
  • Liaising with architects, designers, surveyors, and clients regarding tender queries

As the successful Senior Estimating Manager, you will need

  • At least 8 years' experience in a similar role
  • A positive attitude with a strong commercial awareness
  • To be organised and methodical, capable of working to tight deadlines
  • The ability to communicate and get the best out of your team
  • To be IT literate
  • A detailed approach in formulating proposals
