Management Accountant – Construction business

£45k (negotiable) plus full company benefits package.

Reporting to: Managing Director (Construction)/Group Finance Director

Direct Reports: 2 x Finance Assistants

Our client is a leading construction business based in Lancashire. As a result of growth and expansion we are now recruiting a Management Accountant to assist the Finance Manager with the production of financial information by means of accurately processing and reviewing financial data and making sure all deadlines are hit within the company financial timetable.

Main Responsibilities;

  • Ensure that the financial statements are correct and produced in accordance with accounting standards and current practise, to ensure the effective liaison with external parties and the timely and accurate completion of all statutory returns.
  • Preparation & presentation of Management Accounts and Finance Reports within the agreed monthly timescales, including preparation of Accruals and Prepayments.
  • Analyse overhead variances and exploring potential problems with relevant parties.
  • Continuously seeking, implementing and documenting ways of developing the management accounting and reporting systems with a view to improving the quality and timeliness of management information.
  • Assist the Directors with the preparation of year-end accounts and working papers in line with the external audit timetable.
  • Preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring that all anomalies are investigated and corrected.
  • Monitor Trade Creditor balances, ensuring weekly payment runs with relevant supporting documentation are available for authorisation.
  • Ensure all invoices and Sub Contractor payment advice returns are processed within agreed timetable, with on hold invoices kept to a minimum and ensuring any queried invoices are investigated, credits obtained where appropriate and any issues promptly resolved.
  • Ensure supplier statement reconciliations are carried out and payments made in line with agreed terms.
  • Ensure supplier invoices are reconciled to the current list of agreed supplier contract prices.
  • Ensure Petty Cash returns, Company Credit Card transactions and Personal Expenses are processed in compliance with company guidelines, correctly coded and with the correct VAT calculation and supporting documentation.
  • Day-to-day management of debtors, ensuring receipt of payments for valuation invoices are in line with agreed contract dates.
  • Ensuring that recording of transactions is complete and accurate.
  • Maintenance and development of accounting systems, implementing changes and providing training and assistance to contract managers.
  • To prepare monthly PAYE and quarterly VAT returns.
  • Reconciliation of Monthly and Annual CIS returns.

The successful Management Accounts will have the following skill set and attributes;

  • Previous experience of working as a Management Accountant
  • Qualified or Part Qualified CIMA
  • Good working knowledge of SAGE
  • Knowledge of the construction industry would be advantageous
