An established construction company based in the Warrington area is looking for permanent Quantity Surveyor to join their growing business.

The Company is very successful with a number of frameworks and established clients working on schemes from 50k to 3m in a wide variety of sectors.

The Quantity Surveyor will be working under the direction of the Commercial Manager / MQS, and will be responsible for their own projects. The successful applicant will be expected to maximise project margin and add value to the construction process by proactive involvement in procurement, cost management, reporting and to drive best value from suppliers and subcontractors.

They must be technically qualified (HNC min) in Quantity Surveying and have relevant quantity surveying experience. They must also have excellent Microsoft Office skills including Word and Excel.

Location: North West Salary £45-£47k dependant on experience

Quantity Surveyor Job Description:

  • Preparing Bill Quantities
  • Carry out take offs
  • Compile build rate logs for material and labour.
  • Prepare and monitor project cash-flow forecasts.
  • Measure, value, submit and negotiate contract variations.
  • To carry out monthly valuations of work in progress, including forecasting of final costs and sales.
  • Provide advice to project staff on commercial and contractual matters including reviewing and drafting of correspondence.
  • Prepare, submit and negotiate project final accounts.
  • Commercial vetting of sub-contractor tenders and contracts.
  • Certification of subcontractor monthly valuations and final accounts.
  • Ensure that business commercial processes are adhered to at project level.
  • Assist in preparation and adherence to project purchasing, targeting and costing budgets.
  • Communicate regularly with project staff and specialist subcontractors to ensure commercial controls are in place, understood and followed at all times.
  • Manage and produce accurate formal reports in accordance with business timetable
  • Monitor all commercial information in relation to project including labour, material and sub-contractor cost forecasting thus ensuring budgets are adhered to.
  • Timely submission and negotiation of final accounts to the client / main contractor and subcontractors.
  • Supply all relevant information to the Contracts Manager for review at the specified intervals set.

  • Commercially astute, numerate, risk averse & able to accurately forecast cost & sales
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and remotely, both internally and externally.
  • Multi-tasking, self-motivated, energetic team player with a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
  • Have good practical organisational skills, planning of resources and programme scheduling.
  • Effective communication and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work calmly under pressure.
  • Be able to provide both summarised and detailed reports on current activities.
  • Willing and able to work extra hours as required.


A degree in quantity surveying or a closely related subject (accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).

  • Alternatively, a postgraduate course for people with degrees in other subjects.

    • HNC/HND or foundation degree level supplemented with further study for the RICS or CIOB accredited degrees.
