Quantity Surveyor / Estimator

£50k - £60k plus car allowance, pension, healthcare and 23 days holiday

Oldham

Working in this main building contractor for this established successful private business would suit a Senior Quantity Surveyor that can estimate. The successful applicant will be involved in winning work in Estimating when required. Then the delivering schemes as part of the QS team, supporting an stable pipeline of work for key clients all based locally in the Stockport/Oldham/Rochdale area. The clients they work with are NHS, Education, Frameworks in the new build, refurbishment and maintenance arenas.

Key elements

  • Can identify the factors that influence construction costs, suggest alternatives and monitor and report on this data
  • Proven ability of producing and or managing accurate estimates
  • Able to successfully negotiate estimates and change orders with contractors
  • Good knowledge of - and experience with - all methods of construction procurement
  • Review, validate and audit cost estimates prepared by established sub-contractors and others within the contract interface
  • Manage the commercial activities on site for schemes from £200k to £1m, working either from the office or site where relevant.

Education/Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience ideally with QS and estimating ability
  • Experience within general construction arenas
  • Ability to work on schemes £500k to £1m on various forms of contract
  • Degree qualifications preferred but not essential

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Advanced skills with spreadsheets and report writing on Excel
  • Strong and professional communication skills
  • Self-Motivated and proactive
  • Good organization skills, ability to multi-task, and be a team player
  • Experience with computer based estimating software e.g. on screen take off
